History
Wulv originate from the Weiff continent. They initially branched across the world on Tradewings, and have since spread across the globe.
Biology
Physical Description
Wulv are canine-like in appearance, covered in thick plates with short fuzz, have a long tail-like abdomen, and a pair of antenna in the middle of their forehead in place of a nose. They have a set of dragonfly like wings on their backs.
The most unique physical attribute of a Wulv is their multiple bodies. The main body will lay dud eggs that hatch into clones of the main, or 'prime', body. These clones can be controlled by the prime body remotely, essentially allowing Wulv to have multiple bodies working on multiple tasks, while the prime body stays tucked away safely. The prime body is larger, standing at about 4 1/2 ft (1.4 meters) at the shoulder, while the clones only measure roughly 4 ft (1/2 meters).
Diet
Wulv clones eat very little after maturing, preferring to consume sweets and other energy-rich foods. The clones will bring a wide assortment of food the prime body and the developing clones and possible brood, primarily meat, but will also bring fruits, tubers, and seeds.
Reproduction
Wulv are a unisex species, being all technically female. During early Esorian, breeding Wulv will send out drone clones to seek out and mate with other Wulv. The pregnancy only lasts until mid-late Esorian, then the birthing parent lays around 10-20 fertilized eggs. These eggs hatch into grubs that largely resemble worms or caterpillars, and spend the first year of their life doing nothing but eating and growing. By next Esorian, they with pupate into a chrysalis, not hatching until late Tieon. At which point the birthing parent will have little desire to further care for them and evict them from the nest.
Lifecycle
A Wulv's first challenge in life is surviving their first Harth and Alavora alone. Those that manage to will establish a nest and begin creating clones of their own next Esorian. They will establish a central den covered in silk, where the prime body will remain for typically the rest of their life, though moving is not unheard of either, especially amongst civilized Wulv. Wulv live about 70 years, typically begining to slow down around 60.
Activity Level
Wulv clones do have a limit to the distance they can be from the prime body. This can be up to 30 miles (48 kilmeters), but can be limited by other factors such as how many clones are currently active and how intensive their tasks are. Wulv are typically active all year round, but may choose to hibernate during Harth and Alavora if there isn't enough food. They lay special eggs during Tieon to overwinter during the colder seasons, which then hatch into clones during next Esorian for an extra boost in workers.
Behavior
Temperament
Quiet, busy, and work-oriented.
Sociability
Wulv are not particularly social, but they aren't anti-social either. They prefer to keep to themselves, and prefer work that doesn't require a lot of talking to others, at least relatively. Conversely, they often end up in secretorial and managerial positions due to their ability to multi-task. They tend to be very hands-off sort of managers.
Sapience
Being the only sapient species to produce silk, they've become a cornerstone species of the textiles market, creating clothes and other needed gear with their silk.
