History
Koluur were amongst the first to spread across the world via Tradewings, leading them to be amongst the most widespread species in the world.
Biology
Physical Description
Koluur are quadrupedal and measure about 2 feet (0.6 meters) at the shoulder. They resemble cats, though they're covered in feathers instead of fur. They have feathered wings on their back, and a short tail. They have a beak covered by skin to resemble a cat's mouth, and the beak vaguely follows the shape cat's teeth make. Their jaws are not strong enough to cut bone, instead relying on their sharp beak to slice pieces of flesh away.
Diet
Obligate carnivore.
Reproduction
Koluur breed during Tieon, developing their eggs during the whole of Harth and laying up to 5 eggs mid-hibernation in early Alavora. The eggs stay tucked close to the parent through the rest of their hibernation in Alavora and Nelith, before hatching shortly after the parent awakens in early Esorian. The young stick close to their parents their entire first year, even hibernating in the same den as them come next Harth. They're born with a downy coat and mostly developed features, mostly lacking in mobility.
Lifecycle
Late in Esorian after being born they'll have developed the ability to walk, and will begin following their parent everywhere. After their first hibernation they'll shed their down and develop their full flight feathers and begin trying to fly. After their second hibernation, they'll slowly begin drifting away from their parent and discovering the world for themselves, culminating in them spending their next hibernation completely alone, though they won't be ready to reproduce themselves until next year.
Koluur live to about 80 years old, slowing down once they hit about 70.
Activity Level
Koluur are active from Esorian to Tieon, spending most of Tieon bulking up for the colder seasons. They hibernate from early Harth to late Nelith.
Behavior
Temperament
Koluur are open-minded, sociable, and patient.
Sociability
Koluur are highly sociable, easily getting along with other species. They tend to live in flocks of up to 10 other individuals, though traditionally these flocks only contain other Koluur. Saere are their most common flockmates, but other species have managed to join in as well.
Sapience
Koluur have been the spearhead for medical research, mostly mental health.
