Quadwing

Overview

Quadwings are a medium draconic species.

Classification

Draconian

Rarity

Uncommon

History

Quadwings originate from the south-eastern beaches of Aufer, and have steadily spread across the world, mainly through Tradewings.

Biology

Physical Description

Quadwings have 2 sets of wings, one placed lower down the back than the other. They have a large pair of fins along their tail that're capable of flattening down, up until the final three spikes which always remain open. They have a pair of horns on their head, and a broad muzzle. They have large paws with retractable claws, and short legs relative to their body length. They measure about 6 foot at the shoulder.

Diet

Quadwings are omnivores, preferring meat and fruits but are able to eat most things.

Reproduction

Quadwings typically pair in Harth, and lay eggs in late Alavora. These eggs hatch into blind, deaf, scaleless, all black, tiny hatchlings in late Nelith, which are totally reliant on their parents for care.

Lifecycle

For the length of Esorian, newborn hatchlings need round the clock care, being unable to even feed themselves. By early Itia, they've gained all their senses and are beginning to wander outside the den. They've also grown a layer of scales by this point. They are also starting to turn different colors according to their diet.

Once they reach adulthood at 3 years old, their colors finalize and they gain a breath ability matching those colors. Quadwings live up to 130 years old, slowing down once they reach 100.

Activity Level

Quadwings are active all year around.

Behavior

Temperament

Quadwings are very friendly, but simple.

Culture

Quadwings prioritize friendships over all other relationships, even family (though family can fall under the 'friends' category). They form deep, enduring bonds with their friends.

Sociability

Highly sociable, Quadwings like being near others, especially their friends.

Sapience

Quadwings are not considered especially intelligent. While they're commonly seen on Tradewings, they're more often there just as travelers or as guards- Quadwings don't have much sense for when they're being stiffed on a deal or when someone is acting underhanded. They also struggle with higher education in general, not really grasping the harder sciences or maths. That said, a Quadwing can understand when they've been betrayed, and they won't take it quietly, even from someone they've bonded with.

Abilities

-Bonding: Quadwings have a forged bond borne from mutual friendship. This bond allows the Quadwing to psychically connect with their friends over any distance, able to transmit thoughts and feelings more clearly through their bond than through words.

-Language: Quadwings are fluent in both writing and speaking, but can come across as simple-minded due to struggling to express their exact thoughts.

-Elemental Breath: Quadwings have an elemental breath typically matching their primary body color, which is gained through their diet as a hatchling.

--Fire: reds and oranges, a diet of color matched fruit and meats.

--Lightning: yellows or light blues/purples, a diet of color matched fruit and meats.

--Plasma: whites and pastels, a diet of magic. (doesn't need to be their primary nutrition, just an aspect)

--Plant: greens, a diet of grasses and leaves.

--Earth: browns, a diet of minerals (doesn't need to be their primary nutrition, just an aspect)

--Water: deep blues, a diet of seafood and color matched fruits.

--Metal: greys and black, a diet of seafood and minerals.

--Wind: greys and pastels, a diet of magic and seeds. (doesn't need to be their primary nutrition, just an aspect)

--Ice: light blues and pastels, a diet of seeds, magic, and seafood.

--Poison: purples and dark greens, a diet of mushrooms, grasses, and leaves.

--Flowers: pinks and pastels, a diet of sugars and sweets.

It's debated whether 'Flowers' is a separate breath type from 'Plant'. The main differences seem to be that Flowers summon flowering vines with their breath, and are able to make plants bloom regardless of season, as well as having lesser control over non-flowering plants.
