Candace
The scion of Al-Ahmar and the Guardian of Aaru Village, Candace is kind to travelers who visit, but is unforgiving to those who violate the village's rules.
Dragon Companion: Surge
It was a typically day in Aaru Village. The last sandstorm had been almost a week ago, so the village was a little tense, anticipating the next one sure to come. Candace has just finished tending to her weapons, making sure they were well prepared for the next storm.
Suddenly, there was the sounds of cries from down below, shouts of fear and panic. Candace quickly sprung into action, though there didn't seem to be a sandstorm brewing. She quickly made her way down below, eventually spotting something the made her breath catch.
A dragon. Here in Aaru Village! She knew these creatures weren't inherently dangerous, but it was still alarming. There were remaining wisps of a portal behind the dragon, slowly fading away. 'Just arrived by accident,' Candace thought. 'No point making enemies.' Slowly, she approached the dragon, keeping her weapons lowered but still close- just in case.
The dragon shook itself off, seeming a bit dazed, letting out a few baffled chirps. It's eyes finally locked onto Candace, and it froze, suddenly nervous. It chirped and growled at her, staring at the weapons in her hands. After a few tense moments, Candace put away her weapons, letting them dissipate from her hands. She continued her slow approach, getting closer and closer to the dragon.
Eventually, she reached it, the creature crouched so they were eye level. Gently, she placed a hand on it's snout, and it let her, acknowledging she meant no harm. "No one here will hurt you, friend. We were all just a little startled. You were surprised as well, weren't you?" she asked, receiving a soft groan in response. "Let's get you settled in and we'll contact the Weyr- they'll know what to do."

Abilities: breath attack (hardened sand and water), high agility, high stealth, increased lung capacity
Personality: Surge is a loyal and protective companion who spends most of the day tucked away in the oasis below Aaru Village, conserving his energy for the sandstorms and other dangers that his home faces. He does, however, enjoy playing with the children whenever they come to see him.
In the end, it was decided that Surge would stay in Aaru Village- it was the perfect environment for him, and he'd already taken a liking to Candace. Candace didn't mind at all- teaming up with a dragon to fight the creatures of the sandstorms made her job significantly easier, and Surge seemed to enjoy life in the village. He can most often be found lounging in the Oasis just below the village.
